Stan often sat in my office while looking or waiting for someone or other in CDC’s Polio Program. He was always kind, with a bright smile and a story to pass the time. I remember him always wearing his bow tie, a quick wit and contagious laugh. I loved hearing about his smallpox days. A… Continue reading A kind gentleman

Sustainability of programs was a key word at CDC. However no CDC program matched the sustainability of the projects Dottie and Stan did in Bangledesh, Nigeria and Guatemala. Stan was an incredible mentor for me and taught me what public health was truly about.
A giant who turned into a mentor.
This week, public health lost a giant. Stanley Foster was one of the first people to reach out after I was admitted to Emory for my MPH. He was one of two people to recruit me by taking the time to learn about my work and show he valued it. He initiated an email to… Continue reading A giant who turned into a mentor.

MPH Student 2006-2009
Stan Foster was the first person to ever ask me what my 5yr plan was upon my arrival from Nigeria. Meeting a professor that knew my country and its cultures was very reassuring. Over the next 3years he was there for advice and has continued to be an inspiration to me and many others.

He was establishing a nutrition program that was practical for the particular needs of the Highlands. A favorite experience was when only Dottie, Stan and I went to Guatemala together. We spent time with… Continue reading I will miss my friend.
