I am not sure if I ever met Dr. Stan Foster, but I both benefitted from and was enriched by the values and public health traditions he envisioned and modeled. As a member of the EIS Class of 1987, so many doors opened to me. Doors of opportunity, doors to knowledge and experience, doors to field investigations, the global polio eradication enterprise (Bangladesh 2000 version). The legacy of his work with smallpox eradication in Bangladesh meant that I was generously welcomed and mentored by WHO and Bangladeshi colleagues during my time there. So very blessed by Stan and all that he built with EIS and FETP. EIS officers all “walk in the footsteps of giants”
