Stan was a mentor to me while I studied for my MPH at Emory. His lessons have stayed with me every day since. He sought out ways to give opportunities that would build up others beyond what they thought was possible. Stan embodied meaningful public health work. He modelled how to both listen deeply and to make a point to facilitate change. He was a humble giant whose influence has shaped public health globally in powerful, good and (thankfully!) irrevocable ways. I was deeply saddened at his loss – but few will continue in so tangible a way as Stan.
