DR. FOSTER SERVED HUMANITY WITH COURAGE ON MANY FRONTS
In the early 1980s, the Georgia Mental Health Institute located on Briarcliff Road in Atlanta closed due to federal and state funding being withdrawn. The effect was to send hundreds of mental patients around the corner to Druid Hills Presbyterian Church where Stan Foster served as an elder and leader in church mission efforts. The church was the only piece of property in the area which was a safe haven for these now homeless people. Working with people like Dr. Lila Bonner Miller, the church responded by increasing the mission food budget to feed these people. They were allowed to seek sanctuary on church property and Dr. Foster was instrumental in persuading the church to establish a full time night shelter for men. Dr. Foster a man of courage and Christian principle in the service of humanity on many fronts.
