Stan and I started at CDC on the same day in 1962. Alphabetical seating put Foster and Foege next to each other. We joined forces in Nigeria in 1966 to work on smallpox and measles. Stan was my supervisor but in addition we stayed at their house when visiting Lagos. We both continued working on smallpox in Asia, Stan in Bangladesh while we were in India. And we both ended up at Rollins. I always said I watched Stan closely to see what I would be doing next. Stan had a tenacity to see a job through that was unusual. But he also found joy in his work. Stan and Dottie were hosts to countless people from around the world. We can all be pleased for the gift of knowing both of them.
