Shining example of a principled life, lived well

I was a learner under Stan at Emory. His gruffness belied his gentleness, and his easy smile and cheerful bowties drew me in. He insisted that, prior to coming to him for mentorship, we take some personal inventory to think about what we had to offer in addition to what questions we wanted answered and what problems we wanted addressed. This version of therapy helped frame my concepts of what help means. I relished my time spent in his office, his classroom, and more generally, his presence, and I will be forever grateful for the lessons he helped me learn.
