I knew Stan through Dottie, my college friend. Dottie always had a large place in her heart for Guatemala. We learned all about it in college. Then one summer she met this young man, Stan Foster. She was definitely in love and we all were so happy to be a part of their wedding. I remember letters telling of their life in Africa, then all the other places where Stan made so many contributions to the health not only of the country in which he was working, but for the entire world. What impressed me was his devotion to Dottie’s love and concern for the Mam residence in Guatemala where she had grown up. Stan supported Dottie’s summer trips to give classes and help the women there improve their lives and their health. Stan gave lectures each summer. Though he was solving problems around the world or teaching students, he had great concern for the people who were Dottie’s great concern. For this I have always been grateful. This is the sign of a truly great man!
