Appreciation from “Rocky”

I first met Stan in 1976 when he had just returned from Bangladesh and attended the MPH program at Emory. We were both at CDC at the time, but remained connected over the decades as we both moved to the Rollins School of Public Health. Somewhere along the way, Stan went to West Gambia and was told by an alum that I was his best teacher because I “could teach a rock.” Ever after, Stan called me Rocky, and at his own retirement, gave me a chunk of granite with a plaque on it recalling this event. I treasure it as a reminder of my dear friend. My condolences to the family and all who loved him.
