Alternative Giving

 

What is Alternative Giving?   Alternative giving is a wonderful way to donate to great mission organizations and give a fabulous Christmas gift all at the same time.  You are able to make a donation to a great mission organizations in someone’s name and then give them a gift card explaining the donation/gift in that person’s name.

Local

Amos House - a house of hospitality, a community of individuals who are committed to supporting people in improving their lives

 

Camp Street Ministries - CSCM feeds approximately 120 to 150 families each week with numbers steadily increasing each year. In addition to the food pantry, CSCM provides clothing and household items and a Christmas “shopping” bazaar for their clients. CSCM is a vital resource for many in the community and beyond.

 

Dorcas Place -  Since 1981, Dorcas Place Adult and Family Learning Center has been giving low-income Rhode Islanders the educational opportunities they need to realize their full potential—and climb the ladder to success—through literacy, workplace training, college preparatory programs, and employment

 

International Institute of Rhode Island – new this year! Since 1921, the International Institute of Rhode Island has provided educational, legal and social services to immigrants and refugees throughout RI and southeastern MA with a to enable all area residents, especially immigrants and refugees, to become self-reliant, invested participants in our communities, while fostering respect and understanding among all people.

 

Women’s Resource Center  - The Women's Center of Rhode Island provides safety and support to women and their children who are experiencing interpersonal abuse or homelessness due to personal crisis

 

Global

AMPATH Program for Orphans and Vulnerable Children Introduced in this year’s Peacemaking offering by member Ann Mwangi, AMPATH assists AIDS orphans in Kenya within an individual family and community setting to allow the child to socialize, learn and address their challenges within their own environment. CEOSS - addresses both the formal and informal needs of poor Egyptians, especially girls, in urban and rural communities. From implementing curriculum reform and increasing student participation in the classroom, to distributing resources for Christian spiritual development and teaching girls about basic life skills, CEOSS emphasizes a holistic approach to education and is the mission in which our member Nancy Collins serves.

 

Darfur - It's not YOUR birthday. The United Methodist Committee on Relief has been working in South Darfur since 2005, providing programs that encourage development such as, agricultural support, skills training, primary school reconstruction and rehabilitation, and water point construction and rehabilitation.  In 2008, UMCOR expanded its work to help those in Southern Sudan receive better access to water and sanitation 

 

Heifer Project – Addressing world hunger needs for development by providing animals such as cows, chickens, ducks, sheep, which provide food today but also provide food sources for tomorrow.

 

Narnia Center - The Narnia Educational Center, based in Moscow, exists to provide discerning Russian-language literature for the ministry of Christian education to children, youth, and adults. Additionally the Center provides practical workbooks for the development of Christian teachers and leaders

 

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance - Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is the emergency and refugee program of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A  It focuses on the long term recovery of disaster impacted communities and provides training and disaster preparedness for presbyteries and synods.
